⊗ Axel is considered one of the most popular members of the Organization from the series by fans.
In fact, he was also a popular member of the Kingdom Hearts staff and, according to the "Kingdom Hearts
Character Report Volume 2", he was initially supposed to die at the end of Roxas' Prologue, but his
popularity caused him to be continued into the main game of Kingdom Hearts II.
⊗ Axel is the only character to technically curse: he says the word 'hell' in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories when he says "Give me one hell of a show!"
⊗ In Chain of Memories, Axel's catchphrase is "Commit it to memory", but in Kingdom Hearts II, it was changed to "Got it memorized?", which is a more liable English translation of his original Japanese phrase, "Kioku shita ka?", which is also a past tense question. In Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days, Axel still uses the "Got it memorized?" catchphrase, but it is used in other ways... mostly making references to having things memorized.
⊗ In the English version of Kingdom Hearts II, Axel's death scene was edited to remove the flames that were consuming his body. However, in Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix, the flames are not edited out.
⊗ In the manga based on Kingdom Hearts II, Axel's search for Roxas in Twilight Town is expanded, and it is revealed that lesser Nobodies were stealing pictures of Roxas because they could not tell them apart from the true being.
⊗ Quinton Flynn's characterization of Axel between Re:Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts II are noticeably different. Whereas in the latter, Axel is portrayed as rather lax, in the former, he is more serious and eloquent. It is unknown for the change in characterizations, though the different scripts of the two games may be the reason. It could be interpreted that he became more lax due to his friendship with Roxas, which may not have developed yet beyond their working relationship. Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days lends credibility to this theory as the game, where Roxas' friendship with Axel develops.
⊗ In the Japanese version, Axel was voiced by popular seiyuu Keiji Fujiwara, whose last involvement with Square Enix was to voice Reno of Final Fantasy VII titles Advent Children, Final Fantasy X, Last Order and Crisis Core and provide the voice of Maes Hughes of Fullmetal Alchemist.
⊗ Axel shares his voice actor with Reno over a variety of languages: Quinton Flynn in English, Jean Christophe Parquier in French, V�ctor Mart�nez in Spanish, Philipp Brammer in German and Keiji Fujiwara in Japanese.
⊗ It has been noted that Axel bears many similarities to Reno from Final Fantasy VII. Their similarities include facial markings, wild red hair, green eyes, similar personalities, and they also share voice actors as noted above. Nomura clearly stated in an interview that the two are "different people, but subconsciously alike."
⊗ According to the Secret Reports in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, Axel and Sa�x knew each other when they were humans, possibly also being friends, as Axel states that he should be able to speak to Sa�x the same way that he talks to Roxas and Xion, but he can't because Sa�x had changed after becoming a Nobody.
In Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days:
